I found an article about Sandra Tsing Loh in the May 18 issue of the Los Angeles Times. This quote struck me as flat out wrong:

In the end, for a family core to rely on the notion of a man and a woman feeling romantically in love with each other for 10, 20 or 30 years — it’s the most unstable thing to rely on. … There’s a lot more important stuff going on than who cares if people are sleeping together. Who cares?

The kids care. Interestingly enough, the key to staying together is in the same article:

Biologically, romantic feelings wane after four years, then you have to work at it. [emphasis added]

A family core should rely on the the couple working at it. I believe this can be stable if both partners are committed to supporting each other through the inevitable bad times and rough patches: “till death do us part.”

I believe stability is really important for kids, and they will also learn a very valuable lesson when they see their parents working it out, no matter how tough it gets.
